The A350 LF2 Class 1 flange is the most commonly used, with Class 2 being used in specific applications. The flanges can also be heat treated for hardening. The heat treatment methods are normalising and tempering. The A350 LF2 Blind Flange is a type of flange that is fitted to the ends of pipes to completely close a pipeline. They can be bolted for easy removal for maintenance or permanently welded. A350 LF2 carbon steel slip-on flanges are used with seamless pipe for easy installation in the correct position as the flanges allow the pipe to slip onto the flange and move into the correct position before welding or bolting. Forging temperature for this material should be 900 – 1200oC.
Soak times should be kept to a minimum to avoid heavy scaling, but sufficient time should be allowed for the centre to reach the furnace temperature.

ASTM A350 Grade LF2 Flange Heat Treatment Condition.
ASTM A350 Grade LF2 is a general purpose carbon steel normally supplied in normalised, normalised and tempered or quenched and tempered condition. Quenched and tempered condition
Normalising – Heat to 860 – 920°C for a time appropriate to the cross section, air cool (if required).
Hardening – Heat to 890 – 960oC for a time commensurate with the ruling section and quench in water.
Tempering – Re-heat to 590oC minimum as required depending on final properties required.
Hold for a time appropriate to ruling section and cool in still air.
ASTM A350 LF2 Flange hardness requirement
The hardness shall be a maximum of 197 HB, which meets the requirements for carbon steel forgings in NACE MR0175/ISO 15156-2.
